Official-format comparison
Both tests are accepted by IRCC and both assess listening, reading, speaking, and writing. The better choice is the format that fits how you perform under time pressure—not a test that promises easier immigration points.
Neither test is officially easier and IRCC does not give one more weight than the other. Choose after comparing the task structure, timing, available test dates, and how you prefer to speak and write.

These are format preferences, not guarantees of a higher score. Test-centre dates, delivery details, and fees vary, so confirm them with the centre before booking.
TCF Canada and TEF Canada use different score scales. IRCC converts each of the four abilities to NCLC separately. For TEF Canada, follow IRCC’s instruction to use the “Équivalence ancien score” column when entering Express Entry results; do not substitute the separate Score / 699 value.
Use the NCLC calculatorYes. IRCC lists both as approved French language tests for Express Entry.
There is no official easier test. Their task structures differ, so candidates may personally prefer one format.
Yes. For immigration, both assess listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
IRCC requires language test results to be less than two years old both when you complete your profile and when you apply for permanent residence.
Learn the exact format, calculate your NCLC levels, then practise all four abilities with the same task structure you will meet on test day.
