Learning Path

A stage-by-stage TCF Canada prep path — what to study in each phase. For how to use each feature, see the Prep Guide.

Not a duplicate of the guide: Prep Guide shows you how to use each feature on the site; this page gives you an actionable stage-by-stage prep path (compress or extend each stage based on your level). For CLB targets, registration, and test-centre details, see Exam Info.

1

Stage 1

Baseline check + get familiar with question types

Goal: Understand the TCF Canada structure and your starting point

  • Read the exam info page to learn the requirements for all four skills and your CLB target
  • Complete 1–2 listening/reading practice sets (free sets work fine)
  • Take one timed mock exam to record your estimated CLB and weak levels

2

Stage 2

Focus on listening & reading

Goal: Practice heavily to build intuition and vocabulary

  • One listening or reading set per day (alternate by set or by difficulty)
  • Highlight new words as you go, review your vocabulary list on weekends
  • Redo missed questions the same day or the next in your mistake log
Go to Listening Bank →
3

Stage 3

Target your weak levels

Goal: Extra practice on the levels where you lose the most points (e.g. B2/C1)

  • Use "Practice by difficulty" to focus on your weak levels
  • Pair listening with sentence-by-sentence focused listening to sharpen flow and liaisons
  • For reading, focus on long passages and inference questions, and review using the translation
Go to Focused Listening →
4

Stage 4

Start writing & speaking

Goal: Work on all four skills together, avoid last-minute cramming

  • 2–3 writing pieces per week with AI feedback, track recurring grammar mistakes
  • Practice speaking by Partie, get familiar with examiner questions and follow-ups
  • Keep doing a little listening/reading daily to stay sharp
Go to Writing Practice →
5

Stage 5

Full mock exams + close the gaps

Goal: Get used to exam pacing and stay calm

  • Two full mock exams per week (listening + reading), compared against your CLB target
  • Go through your mistake log and saved questions once more
  • Review high-frequency words in your vocabulary list to cut down on basic errors
Go to Mistake Log →
6

Stage 6

Light review, get into shape

Goal: Stay sharp without overdoing it

  • A small amount of practice each day, focused on mistakes and notes
  • Confirm your test centre address, ID, and arrival time
  • Get enough sleep and know the exam-day process

How to adjust for your level

  • Beginner / A2: Spend more time on Stages 1–3 with A1–B1 sets; you can push writing and speaking to Stage 4 later.
  • Around B1: Follow the six stages above as is, and start adding mock exams regularly from Stage 2.
  • B2+ aiming for CLB 9+: Shorten the foundational stages and add more C1/C2-specific work and full mock exams in Stages 3–5.
